Minister Abubakar Momoh Leads Federal Engagement at North-West Development Summit(Photos)
The Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr Abubakar Momoh FNSE, on Saturday led federal participation at the maiden Stakeholders’ Development Summit of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), held at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre, Kaduna.
The summit convened senior government officials, members of the National Assembly, development partners, state governments, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, and private sector stakeholders to advance a coordinated development framework for the North-West region.
Speaking at the summit, Minister Momoh reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable regional development, aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He underscored the strategic role of Regional Development Commissions in addressing regional disparities through structured collaboration, targeted investments, and transparent implementation.
The Minister emphasised that development initiatives under the commission must be people-centred, impact-driven, and responsive to the specific needs of communities across the seven states of the North-West. He called for strong synergy among federal, state, and local actors to effectively tackle insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits in the region.
The summit, themed “Advancing a Coordinated Regional Development Agenda for North-West Nigeria,” was organised in collaboration with the Joint Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives on the NWDC and featured high-level participation from national and regional leaders.
The summit featured high-level participation from the National Assembly, with the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, in attendance, while former Vice President Namadi Sambo chaired the occasion. State governments across the North-West were represented, alongside development partners, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, and private sector stakeholders, reflecting broad-based commitment to the region’s development agenda.
Deliberations at the summit focused on priority areas including security, agriculture, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and economic revitalisation, with stakeholders agreeing on the importance of unified strategies and sustained partnerships.
Minister Momoh’s leadership at the event reinforced the Ministry of Regional Development’s mandate to translate policy into action and to position Regional Development Commissions as effective vehicles for delivering measurable and lasting impact.
The engagement marks a significant step in strengthening institutional coordination and accelerating sustainable development across the North-West, in line with the Federal Government’s broader national development objectives.
