Imo at 50: A Golden Reflection, A Renewed National Promise — Abubakar Momoh (Photos)

The celebration of Imo State’s Golden Jubilee was far more than a ceremonial milestone. It stood as a profound national reflection—an opportunity to honour history, recognise resilience, and reaffirm our shared responsibility to shape a stronger and more united Nigerian future.

I was deeply honoured to join His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, while respectfully acknowledging our gracious host, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma.

I also recognise the presence of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, my fellow cabinet ministers and members of the Federal Executive Council, distinguished governors, eminent statesmen, revered traditional rulers, and other national leaders who gathered for this historic occasion.

Chaired with distinguished grace by Sir Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the ceremony reaffirmed that the story of every state is inseparably linked to the broader Nigerian journey—one defined by unity, resilience, and shared aspiration.

Governor Uzodinma’s stewardship reflects a commitment to stability, infrastructure renewal, and cultural pride worthy of recognition at this golden milestone. Equally inspiring was the solidarity of fellow cabinet members and national leaders, underscoring the strength of collaborative governance in advancing the Renewed Hope vision for our nation.

For me, this moment symbolised more than attendance. It represented the enduring commitment of our administration to inclusive regional growth, coordinated development, and people-centred progress across Nigeria. As Minister of Regional Development, I remain guided by a simple philosophy: that true leadership is measured not by spectacle, but by tangible results that improve lives, strengthen institutions, and connect communities.

Imo’s fifty-year story is one of culture, courage, and meaningful contribution to our national identity. Even more compelling is the future it points toward—a future where partnership between federal vision and subnational potential delivers lasting prosperity for our people.

As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we are reminded that the greatest tribute to history is purposeful action in the present. Together, we must continue building a Nigeria where opportunity is broad, development is equitable, and hope is visible in the everyday lives of our citizens.
